Balochistan Official: Cross-Border Firing From Afghanistan Results In Several Casualties


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- At least one person was killed and 12 others received injuries when Afghan Border Forces fired mortars on the civilian population in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Thursday.
A senior administrative official in Chaman, Balochistan, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Zehri, in a statement to media, confirmed the causalities.
According to initial reports from Pakistan, two shells fired by the Afghan Taliban landed in the Changaiz post area at the Chaman border of the Pak-Afghan border among civilian residences.
The injured were taken to the nearest government run district hospital.
In a statement, Balochistan Minister for Home Affairs Mir Ziaullah Langove condemned the incident and sought a report from the officials. He said that the army knew how to defend the country's borders.
The incident occurred days after at least six people lost their lives while 17 others sustained injuries when Afghan Border Forces opened fire on the civilian population at Chaman border in Balochistan. (end)
