Uzbekistan will not accept political conditions for gas exchange

(MENAFN) Uzbekistan pays attention to its national interests and will never accept political conditions in exchange for gas, the nation’s energy minister made a statement.

“We will never jeopardize our national interests,” Jorabek Mirzamahmudov stated on possible gas exchange with Russia in an interview published by Uzbek news website Kun on Thursday.

Any deal for gas imports will just be “through commercial sales contracts” and Uzbekistan “will not allow any political conditions to be imposed in return,” he claimed.

He added Uzbekistan will take “other measures” if it cannot purchase gas from other nations at a “reasonable” cost.

“Understand one thing: We have gas problems only in the winter. The rest of the time, we are able to fully cover our needs,” on the words of Mirzamahmudov.

He continued that Uzbekistan is set to take all needed steps to address its energy requirements, as well as extra investments and looking for other energy sources.
