(MENAFN) Teachers throughout Scotland went on protest Wednesday and is going to remain their industrial measures via Thursday, triggering thousands of students to take another unscheduled day off school, as well as imposing schools to near.
Associates of the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) as well as NASUWT unions walked out due to a pay argument with COSLA, the council umbrella organization, and the Scottish administration.
"This is first time members in Scotland have taken national strike action in over a decade. They are sick of warm words telling them how much they are valued, while their pay dwindles each year in real terms," as stated by Patrick Roach, NASUWT general secretary, in a written report.
"A typical teacher in Scotland is almost £50,000 (USD61,000) worse off as a result of their pay failing to keep pace with inflation since 2010, a loss which will be further compounded by the current below-inflation pay offer," as stated by the NASUWT, which is urging for an entirely invested 12 percent pay raise for 2022 and the next year.
