Megagas pipeline from Russia to China is nearing completion

(MENAFN) According to the Xinhua News agency on Wednesday, which used construction firm PipeChina as a source, a critical portion of the East Route natural gas pipeline between Russia and China has been finished.

According to the report, the section is going to enable the transportation of gas from Russia to Shanghai, China's eastern economic powerhouse.

The 5,111 km cross-border pipeline is said to supply natural gas to cities along the route, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin. It is claimed to enter China through the border city of Heihe in northeastern Heilongjiang Province. It is a component of the East Route project, which links up with Russia's 3,004 km Power of Siberia pipeline.

In order to supply China with Russian gas, the East Route was the first pipeline to be partially launched in December 2019. Starting in 2024, the massive project is going to supply China with 38 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas annually, with completion and full operation anticipated by 2025. According to PipeChina, anticipated deliveries could contribute to a 164-million-ton annual reduction in China's carbon dioxide emissions.
