(MENAFN) While denying any involvement on the part of the United States in the Ukrainian drone attacks on two airfields located deep inside of Russia, Secretary of State Antony Blinken promised to keep providing Kiev with whatever it requires. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin denied media claims that the United States is going to interfere with HIMARS launchers, stating that the Pentagon wouldn't "prevent" Ukraine from acquiring long-range weapons.
Tuesday, when the Wall Street Journal article about the modifications to HIMARS rocket launchers and the attack on two Russian airfields that occurred on Monday came up, Austin and Blinken fielded questions from the media alongside their Australian counterparts who are in Washington.
What really matters, Blinken told reporters, is how Ukraine is handling "ongoing Russian aggression." "We have neither encouraged nor enabled the Ukrainians to strike inside of Russia," he added. According to Blinken, the United States is adamant about providing the Ukrainians with "the equipment that they need to defend themselves, to defend their territory, to defend their freedom."
