(MENAFN) A compromise on the National Defense Authorization Act has been reached by United States lawmakers, who have agreed to approve USD45 billion more in military spending overall in the next year than President Joe Biden had asked for. There are also numerous provisions for new "security assistance" to Ukraine and increased cooperation with Taiwan.
After protracted negotiations, the House and Senate Armed Services Committees released their final version of the NDAA on Tuesday night, hoping to have the House vote on it by the end of the week. A total of USD858 billion would be set aside in the massive spending bill for the defense budget for the following year. According to lawmakers, this is an increase from this year because of soaring inflation and expensive arms shipments to Kiev.
The most recent NDAA would also approve an additional USD800 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which is USD500 million more than President Biden's original request. These funds would be in addition to the basic annual funding for the Defense Department and the Department of Energy, which oversees America's nuclear arsenal.
