US share market decrease to start week in negative territory


(MENAFN) Main indices in the US share market started with decreases on Monday to start the additional week on a decreased note.

The Dow Jones was 188 points lower, or 0.55 percent, to 34,241, whereas the S&P 500 dropped 20 points, or 0.51 percent, to 4,050.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell by 44 points, or 0.4 percent, to 11,417.

The VIX volatility index, also recognized as the fear index, climbed 5.3 percent to 20.07.

In the meantime, the 10-year US Treasury yield surged 1.5 percent to 3.557 percent.

The dollar index jumped 0.1 percent to 104.60, nearly its peakiest since 2002, whereas the euro gained 0.2 percent to USD1.0556 versus the dollar.

Precious metals were lower with gold declining 0.6 percent to stand at USD1,787 an ounce and silver falling 2.2 percent to USD22.63.

Oil costs earned over 2 percent. Global benchmark Brent crude was exchanging at USD87.76 a barrel for a surge of 2.5 percent, whereas US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was nearly selling at USD87.17, rising 2.7 percent.
