Silatech, Education Above All Organize High-Level Event On SDG

Doha: Silatech organized a high-level event in cooperation with the Education Above All Foundation, within the framework of the campaign supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 'Scoring 4 the Goals', in the FIFA Fan Festival at Al Bidda Park.

The event was attended by the Secretary-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo, and a number of their Excellencies heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar.

 ILO Secretary-General said: 'With start-ups accounting for some 50% of newly created jobs, youth-led enterprises can be a driver of job creation for young people and foster innovation.' He stressed the importance of developing the entrepreneurial skills that the labor market needs among young people, adding that special attention should be given to the dynamics of gender differentiation, and that there is an important component of promoting youth entrepreneurship is skills development and training, as well as enabling an entrepreneurial environment.

Areej Al Masry, a member of the Youth Advisory Council (formed by Silatech, Education Above All and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights), stressed the importance of working to involve young people in decision-making, as well as enabling them to contribute effectively to the renaissance of their societies, referring in this respect to the need to strengthen partnerships between active international institutions, governmental organizations, and civil work organizations; In order to work on providing job opportunities for young people, and to provide the necessary tools such as training and facilitate their access to capital so that they can establish their entrepreneurial businesses and live in dignity.

The 'Scoring 4 the Goals' event will continue within the FIFA Fan Festival in Al Bidaa Park until Dec. 17. The event includes conferences and seminars related to the Sustainable Development Goals.
