France will file FIFA complaint following VAR debacle

(MENAFN) According to reports, the French Football Association (FFF) will complain to FIFA over the circumstances that led to VAR ruling out Antoine Griezmann's late equalizing goal during their 1-0 loss to Tunisia on Wednesday.

The African squad stunned a much-changed France side in their last group encounter, with a solitary goal from Montpellier's France-born striker Wahbi Khazri enough to separate the two teams.

However, Didier Deschamps' men thought to have leveled the scores in the ninth minute of injury time when Griezmann blasted home from close range - only for VAR to rule it out because a French player was offside in the build-up.

However, France is dissatisfied with the ruling since it occurred after the game had been restarted, despite FIFA regulations prohibiting VAR interjections after a match has been restarted, which is exactly what happened in the encounter at the Education City Stadium.

The official rules assert: “If play has stopped and restarted, the referee may only undertake a 'review', and take the appropriate disciplinary sanction, for mistaken identity or for a potential sending off offence relating to violent conduct, spitting, biting or extremely offensive, insulting and/or abusive action(s).”
