Gazprom to become dormant Pipes in Nord Stream

(MENAFN) The Nord Stream gas pipelines and compressor units is going to be shut down, according to corporate sources, the Kommersant daily stated on Monday. Both strings of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline and one string of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline sustained damage from explosions in September and are no longer operational.

Gas-pump machinery won't be removed from the compressor stations at Portovaya and Slavyanskaya; it will stay put, according to the report. This is going to enable quick resumption of flows when the pipes are repaired.

The date of the repairs is now impossible to predict, according to Institute of Energy and Finance analyst Sergey Kondratyev, who told the news source that the decision had validity. Additionally, because Portovaya employs specialized equipment, the transfer of equipment to other compressor stations is not practical. The expert estimates that the project might take three to five months to complete and cost up to three billion rubles (about USD50 million).
