Brazil is worried about Neymar's World Cup fitness

(MENAFN) Brazil started their World Cup campaign in Qatar with a win over Serbia, which included an early candidate for goal of the tournament from Richarlison, but they were left with doubts about Neymar's fitness when he suffered an ankle injury.

Brazil, chasing a sixth World Cup championship, were particularly good in the second half of their 2-0 victory over Serbia at the Lusail Stadium on Thursday night.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison's two goals, including an acrobatic second strike, were enough to secure the points, albeit Neymar's departure 11 minutes from time took some of the luster off the triumph.

The star was spotted hobbling following a tackle from Serbia's Nikola Milenkovic, and he seemed distraught as colleagues on the bench consoled him.

Images also indicated swelling on Neymar's ankle, raising concerns about his readiness for the rest of the tournament.

“He continues with the physio, but now need to wait 24 to 48 hours for a better assessment. There is no MRI scan scheduled, but tomorrow we will make a new assessment. We need to wait and cannot make any premature comments,” Lasmar was cited as stating by ESPN.
