Doha: Msheireb Downtown Doha was coloured maroon and white yesterday as fans cheered for the Qatar National Team — Al Annabi — ahead of its game against Senegal today at Al Thumama Stadium at 4pm.

The parade started at Al Annabi Village, located at the Heritage Zone of the Msheireb Museum. It is the main celebration area for Qatar National Team where visitors and fans can discover various activities that bring people together to celebrate special moments.

Fans carried Qatari flags as they marched through the streets of Msheireb. Many supporters wore traditional Qatari attire, while some wore Qatari flag as a cape. Fans sang and cheered for the Al Annabi team while playing the musical instrument, tabil.

Before the march and street parade began, supporters of the Qatar National Team gathered at the village where a traditional sword dance“Arda” was performed. Children as young as five years old took part in this display of strength and power as they swung their swords to the rhythm of native lyrics.

Around the village there were several activities and e-games organised for fun and enjoyment of fans. Entry to the village at Msheireb Downtown is free of charge. Among the activities are Beat your shot, Head to head, Sink the shot, Play Station FIFA 2022, and Face painting.

According to Maryam Al Jassem, PR and Communication Manager at Msheireb Properties, yesterday's street parade was a means for everyone to express their Al Annabi spirit and share in the happy occasion.“This is our way to demonstrate our confidence in our team and to celebrate our nation's success in organising the biggest event in the world.”

Abdullah, who is from Saudi Arabia and an Al Annabi supporter, expects that Qatar will win today's match against Senegal.“I think they will have a good start for the second game and hopefully they will win.” He arrived on Monday and will stay in the country until Saturday.

On Qatar's hosting the World Cup, he said:“Everything is really great, it's more than what I expected really. Qatar did a good job, and at the end of the World Cup, everyone will say thank you to Qatar.”

Roda who also joined yesterday's celebration, said she also hopes that Al Annabi will play better and win.“I watched the opening game, Qatar vs Ecuador but we didn't win, and I pray this time they will bounce back and score a goal.”
