Pentagon 'Deeply Concerned' By Escalating Actions In Iraq, Syria, Turkiye

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- The Pentagon voiced Wednesday its deep concern by 'escalating actions' in northern Syria, Iraq and Turkiye, saying this escalation 'threatens the Global Coalition to Defeat (IS) years-long progress to degrade and defeat (IS).'
Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder said in a statement 'recent air strikes in Syria directly threatened the safety of US personnel who are working in Syria with local partners to defeat (IS) and maintain custody of more than ten thousand (IS) detainees.'
'Moreover, uncoordinated military actions threaten Iraq's sovereignty,' he added.
He stressed that 'immediate de-escalation is necessary in order to maintain focus on the defeat-(IS) mission and ensure the safety and security of personnel on the ground committed to the defeat-(IS) mission.'
'We condemn the loss of civilian life that has occurred in both Turkiye and Syria as a result of these actions and offer our condolences,' he continued. 'We are also concerned by reports of the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.'
'As we call for de-escalation, we recognize Turkiye's legitimate security concerns,' he remarked.
He affirmed 'we will continue to discuss with Turkiye and our local partners maintaining ceasefire arrangements.' (end)
