Head of NATO: Ukraine needs more armaments before peace negotiations

(MENAFN) According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia is probably going to be resolved through diplomacy, hence Kiev needs to be given more armaments.

“We all want this war to end,” Stoltenberg declared in his speech at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's 68th Annual Session on Monday in Madrid, adding that it matters to the United States-led military alliance how the conflict is resolved.

The head of NATO claimed that “we need to realize that this war most likely will end at some stage at the negotiating table. But we must also know that the outcome of those negotiations totally depends on strength on the battlefield.”

He also mentioned, “so, if we want an outcome, which is acceptable for Ukraine… the best way of achieving that is to provide military support for Ukraine.”

Stoltenberg urged lawmakers to continue pushing for increased aid for Kiev in their own nations, declaring that NATO members "must be prepared to support Ukraine for the long haul."
