(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola Monday announced that Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will not have any official contacts with their Iranian counterparts because Tehran has imposed sanctions several MEPS.
'The European Parliament welcomes the addition of 29 individuals and 3 entities (in Iran) to the list of those subjected to restrictive measures or sanctions. We call on the (EU) member states to keep the sanctions up in response the unacceptable sanctioning of members of this house,' she told the opening session of the EP in Stasbourg this evening.
She announced that 'there will be no direct contact between European Parliament Delegations and and committees with their official Iranian counterparts until further notice.'
Metsola also called for the protection of womenآ's rights in Afghanistan and human rights in Iran. (end)
