Google Makes It Easier for Users to Compare Pricing and Find Product Discounts

Google is rolling out three new Search features to help shoppers find better deals on products directly from Search. The new features will make it easier for users to find product promos and coupons.

Google already shows when items are on sale or if the price for a specific product has dropped. But the new features will allow users to see specific product promotions and compare the products to others without leaving Search.

That will enhance search results and improve the shopping experience for online shoppers.

It’s also expected to revolutionize how B2C eCommerce businesses approach search engine marketing (SEM). Learn more about SEM and whitehat link-building strategies.

Google Shopping Upgrades

According to market research firm Ipsos, about 33% of Americans have already started shopping for the holidays. With the holiday season underway, Google hopes that rolling out these new features will help online shoppers find cheaper products and better promotions. Over 60% of shoppers search for products online.

If you’re an online retailer, here’s what you need to know about the new Google Shopping features:

1. New Google Search Labels for Coupons and Promotions

Coupon codes help shoppers to save money. But finding them, and making sure they work, have always been a challenge.

That’s the challenge Google wants to solve with the promotions and coupon labels in Search. Items running a promotion will show up in the search results with a promotion badge. Users can see specific promotions and compare them to others right in Search.

The new coupon and promotion label features will automatically tag items on sale, helping speed up the shopping process.

Additionally, Google is introducing a coupon clipping feature that will allow users to copy promo codes and use them when they’re ready to buy. Instead of checking each retailer’s website, shoppers can save promo codes on their clipboards and simply paste them into the checkout page when finalizing a purchase.

2. Price Comparisons

According to Google, shoppers do a lot of website hopping, trying to find the best product prices. The search giant said that most US shoppers visit multiple websites before purchasing.

The price comparisons feature will enable users to compare deals side by side without leaving Search. It will help shoppers find the best product price without checking each retailer’s website. Instead, Google will show a comparison of specific prices from different stores.

For example, users who search for a halter top will see a side-by-side comparison of available halter tops in the search results.

The price comparison feature is currently only available in the US and France. But Google hopes to add more price comparison features to its Shopping platform.

3. Price Insights

The last feature Google will be rolling out is the price insights feature that will help shoppers understand the prices they see and make better purchasing decisions. Through price insights, shoppers will see how a retailer’s prices compare to their competitors and whether it’s low or high based on historical values.

That’ll help shoppers to tell whether they’re getting a good deal or overpaying for a product.

Retailers can also leverage the feature to see the performance of their deals and review their promotions through product listings on Google.

Google says the new features will make it easier to find great prices and have shoppers checking everything off their lists this season.

The new features arrive as shoppers, rocked by skyrocketing inflation, search for early bargain deals. They’re also shopping early as they fear price increases and stockouts.

More than saving shoppers money and time, the new features will also impact brand search engine marketing. Retail brands will become more aggressive with their pricing and SEM as they seek top placement in Google searches.

Google is beefing up its online shopping tools. And it may be time for you to also ramp up your search engine marketing.
