Tashkent, 15 November 2022 – Today the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed a welcoming speech to the delegates of the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education which is being held this week in Tashkent.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the extreme importance of the conference and the Tashkent Declaration to be approved as its follow-up along with Obligations on Transforming Early Childhood Care and Education. “The number of educators and teachers has increased threefold and reached 160,000. Furthermore, practical work has been undertaken to improve the qualifications of more than 160,000 educational personnel. This, in turn, provided an opportunity to increase the number of children receiving education and training in kindergartens from 600,000 to 2 million, the rate of children’s coverage increased to 70%”, noted Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay also delivered a welcoming address to the delegates.
"Uzbekistan is the country with geography and history that gifted us such world famous cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. From the earliest times this country distinguished itself with its striving towards scientific knowledge. Avicenna and Al-Khorezmi to whom we owe a tribute for algebra became symbols of these efforts.
"Therefore, leadership traditions go together with commitment to education. His Excellency President Mirziyoyev prioritizing preschool education and care ensured more than twofold increase of enrollment in preschool education in just a few years – from 27% in 2017 to 67% in 2021", said Madam Azoulay.
