China informs Lithuania to ‘Adhere to one-China principle,’ after establishing Taiwan office
(MENAFN) A day after Lithuania established its office in Taiwan, China on Tuesday called on the Baltic country to follow to the “one-China principle.”
“We firmly reject any act that violates China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” as stated by Zhao Lijian, representative for China’s Foreign Ministry, when enquired around the most recent improvement in Taiwan-Lithuania ties.
“China urges Lithuania to strictly abide by the one-China principle, prudently handle Taiwan-related issues, and earnestly safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations,” as stated by Zhao.
The Baltic country on Monday officially started functioning in Taipei after starting its exchanging office in Taiwan, the self-ruled country which China claims as its “breakaway province.”
“This trade office will bring better cooperation between Lithuania and Taiwan. Lithuania is taking a huge step towards becoming a high-tech powerhouse in the EU, and this partnership will strengthen that,” Lithuanian Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrine Armonaite said in a tweet, who joined the occurrence at the Taiwanese Representative Office in the capital Vilnius.
