Finland and Sweden are expected to announce simultaneous bids to join Nato in May, according to regional media.
Iltalehti, a leading Helsinki daily, said the two countries' leaders could meet in the week of 16 May then announce a bid.
Aftonbladet, a Stockholm daily, added that the US and UK have agreed to provide security support during the application process.
Stockholm and Helsinki have long pursued policies of military neutrality to avoid conflict with regional powers, especially Russia.
Separately, Finland sent two ambulances and rescue service supplies to Ukraine and medical supplies to Moldova earlier this month. In addition, a donation of medicinal products was delivered to Ukraine.
In recent weeks, Finland has sent material assistance to Ukraine and its neighbouring regions, and experts to Poland and Slovakia to help coordinate the assistance delivered through the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism.
