Turkmen Radio FM Facing Financial Crises

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The owner of the only Turkmen Radio in northern Jawzjan province says his radio network was facing financial crises and may be closed if not supported.

Radio Turkmen Head Bashir Hakimi during an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News his radio was going through deep financial crisis if government and media support organisations did not pay attention to this problem Radio Turkmen FM will be shut.

“We cannot pay our employees salary, we cannot hire more employees for our programmes. We want the media support organisations to support us.”

Information Department Director Saifuddin Motasem said efforts were underway to provide support to media outlets.

“We talked with the UNAMA and other organisations to support media outlets. Local media outlets owners also referred to us for financial support and we are striving to provide them with some sort of support,” he said.

Currently, 10 local radios are functional in Jawzjan province and their transmission declined from 24 hours to 10 hours.
