(MENAFN) The Kremlin said on Thursday that it hoped the US administration would not inform reporters about its suspicions that Kiev masterminded a high-profile killing in Russia in order to wash its hands of future terrorist occurrences.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesman, was responding to a New York Times piece detailing the US intelligence community's assessment of a bomb assault outside Moscow in August that killed journalist and political activist Darya Dugina.
“The involvement of the Ukrainian state in this terrorist act, the murder of a young woman, was argued and demonstrated by our special services in a reasonably swift manner,” Peskov informed reporters.
The Kremlin representative emphasized that the NYT piece may be a positive step if it truly reflects the US intelligence community's position.
“We really want to hope that this is not some attempt by the American colleagues, who may possess certain information, to distance themselves from responsibility for future terrorist acts that the Ukrainian state may be preparing,” he noted.
