Kremlin: EU must establish its position on Ukraine

(MENAFN) The European Union must determine if it wants the Ukraine problem settled diplomatically or militarily, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a press conference on Thursday.

When asked about Austria's reported offer to organize de-escalation talks, Zakharova said Moscow could only consider such offers once the EU determines what it stands for in Ukraine.

“First of all, the EU should make up its mind about itself,” Zakharova stated, advising the EU to choose whether it is pursuing a unified foreign policy or if decisions are handled by individual member states.

She said that Russia has often heard "contradictory claims" from the EU. Zakharova remarked that many ostensible proposals proposed by member states were later withdrawn or never implemented because they were not accepted by Brussels.

“Secondly, the EU also needs to make up its mind whether they support the talks [on Ukraine], or the battlefield solution, as [EU foreign policy chief Josep] Borrell had put it,” she claimed.
