WaPo: There is enough evidence to prosecute Hunter Biden

(MENAFN) Federal authorities investigating US President Joe Biden's son Hunter believe they have enough evidence to prosecute him with crimes involving taxes and a weapons purchase. The decision to bring charges, however, is left to a professional prosecutor in Delaware, according to the Washington Post, citing sources.

While the IRS investigates whether Hunter Biden failed to register money from his international business activities in Ukraine and China, the FBI is looking into a 2018 incident in which he replied "no" to the question about being a drug user or addict. In his memoir 'Beautiful Things,' published in 2021, the president's son admitted to taking crack cocaine and other substances during the period.

Agents "decided months ago" that they had a valid criminal case against the younger Biden, but the choice to pursue a case is up to US Attorney for Delaware David C. Weiss, according to the Post, citing "people familiar with the investigation."

Weiss is a career prosecutor who was appointed in late 2017 by President Donald Trump. During the 2020 presidential campaign, Trump used Hunter's business connections in Ukraine and the sex-and-drugs discoveries from his laptop, claims that Biden and Democrats dismissed as "smears" and even "Russian misinformation."
