(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait has re-affirmed its unwavering commitment to empowering women so they may attain their various rights, in line with the State Constitution and the UN-set 2030 sustainable development goals.
Kuwait supports, at the regional and international levels, efforts aimed at enabling the women, said the diplomatic attache of the permanent mission at the UN, Mawaddah Al-Mansour, in a statement during a session of the third committee of the United Nations General Assembly, addressing 'women promotion.'
Article 29 of Kuwait Constitution affirms that there is no indiscrimination among the Kuwaiti society segments and stipulates that people are equal with respect of humanitarian dignity, under the laws in regard of rights and duties, she said.
The diplomat has affirmed Kuwait's serious concern for promoting the Kuwaiti women, boosting and protecting their rights, noting that they have been taking strides at this level since winning their franchise in 2005.
The Kuwaiti women, who have been occupying jobs and posts in the public sector for many years, now account to 30 percent of the diplomatic corps, in addition to serving in senior positions in the judicial, oil, health, teaching sectors as well as other fields, Al-Mawaddah added.
Among their record achievements is their occupation of very senior posts, serving as ministers, members of the parliament and occupying undersecretaries' posts.
On September 29, the Kuwaiti citizens elected two women members in the parliament, after four others were appointed in the Municipal Board, thus adding to their accomplishments' record.
'We in Kuwait are acting to build new Kuwait by 2035 and we are quite aware that this ambitious vision is unattainable without the women effective participation,' she concluded. (end)
