BHELSIA, Tiruchi calls for modification in procurement policy of PSUs
Tiruchi, Oct 6 (KNN) BHEL Small and Medium Industries Association (BHELSIA), Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu has urged the central government to bring changes in the procurement policy of PSUs along with BHEL, Railways and Defence sector for a 'win-win' situation.
It has requested for government's intervention to activate the MSME sector as the market conditions revive, reported The Hindu.
Rajappa Rajkumar, President of BHELSIA, said,“There are various signs of market revival such as the improvement in the order position of BHEL, identification of Tamil Nadu for manufacture of defence components etc.”
“For a 'win-win' situation, the procurement policy of PSUs, including BHEL, Railways and Defence sector needs modification,” he added.
Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter, Rajkumar said the plan for establishment of major manufacturing centres to make defence equipment has not progressed on expected lines though several seminars have been conducted.
In and around Tiruchi there are about 450 MSME units with a capacity to manufacture around 7 lakh metric tonnes of fabricated components.
But currently, the units have been able to get orders for only 1.5 lakh metric tonnes per annum.
BHELSIA has also marked copies of the letter to Ministers of Defence, MSME, Heavy Industries, and Railways, and Chairman and Managing Director of BHEL. (KNN Bureau)
