Thai police: Childcare center attack leaves over 30 deaths

(MENAFN) Over 30 people, mainly children, were murdered on Thursday after a gunman started shooting in a childcare center in northeastern Thailand, according to experts.

Police Maj. Gen. Achayon Kraithong stated the gunfire took place early in the afternoon in the center in the town of Nongbua Lamphu.

He also declared the invader murdered 30 people before taking his own life. He had no further information.

A spokesperson for a local public affairs office stated 26 deaths have been confirmed up to now — 23 children, two teachers and one police officer.

Based on Thai media reports, the gunman further used knives in the invasion and then escaped the building.

Photographs showed more than two bodies on the floor of the center covered in white sheets.

Many media outlets recognized the attacker as a previous police lieutenant colonel from the region but without instant official approval.
