Russia's Gazprom obligates Moldova to pay gas debt by Oct. 20 deadline

(MENAFN) Russia could block natural gas exports if Moldova does not pay its debt obligations by the 20th of October, Russian energy firm Gazprom declared on Tuesday.

Gazprom stated in a written report that 5.7 million cubic meters of natural gas a day are set for export to Moldova in October.

Gazprom’s statement mentioned that “the company's shipments to Moldova fell due to Ukraine's behavior” pointing out that the nation had repeatedly dishonored its payment obligations for gas exported in 2022.

The firm stated that "Gazprom reserves all its rights, including the right to completely cut off gas supplies and terminate the contract in case of violation of the payment obligation by October 20. In the future, any request by Moldova implying changes in the terms of the contract will be formalized only in the form of additions to the contract.”
