Terrorist assault in Zahedan: Intelligence minister promises vengeance on mercenaries

(MENAFN) Iran's intelligence minister has denounced the latest fatal terrorist incident in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, saying that the Islamic Republic will respond firmly to crimes done by foreign mercenaries throughout the nation.

Esmail Khatib made the comment on Sunday while expressing his condolences for the death of five members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), including the director of the special force's intelligence section in Sistan and Baluchestan, in a terrorist assault in Zahedan.

“Terrorist groups linked to global arrogance should know that they will soon witness the results of their heinous acts, riots and assassination of innocent people,” Khatib asserted in a statement.

“The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and other powerful and determined intelligence, security and law enforcement forces will respond categorically to the mercenaries’ attempts to sow division [among the Iranian people] and their crimes.”

After congregational prayers in Zahedan on Friday, terrorists began gun attacks on multiple police stations and public venues, killing 19 people and wounding 20 others.
