IRGC intelligence: Assaults on citizens, troops will not go unpunished
(MENAFN) The Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has harshly denounced the latest terrorist incident in the southern Iranian city of Zahedan, vowing the elite force will inflict heavy blows to terrorists threatening the country's security.
The announcement came two days after the leader of the IRGC's intelligence unit in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan was murdered in combat with armed terrorists near a mosque. Four additional IRGC personnel were also slain in the incident.
The armed gang participating in the fighting had carried out terrorist assaults against a police station in the province capital city of Zahedan prior to meeting outside the Makki Mosque on Friday. Terrorist elements then began firing, leading security personnel to rush to the location.
“Without a doubt, the ... Iranian nation and the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not let attempts against security and life of people and soldiers of the nation go unanswered,” the IRGC stated in an announcement.
It cautioned Iran’s enemies, “especially the ruthless secessionist groups and their accomplices,” that the members of the nation's intelligence service “are monitoring all their plots and blind acts of sedition, and will deal deadly blows on them by the Grace of God.”
