EU Leaders To Discuss Ukraine, Energy At An Informal Meeting In Prague

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Oct 3 (KUNA) - European Union leaders will hold an informal meeting in Prague , Czech Republic, on Friday to discuss developments in Ukraine, the energy crisis, and the economic situation.
In his invitation letter to EU leaders published Sunday night, European Council President Charles Michel said, 'we will discuss the three most pressing - and interlinked - issues for us all, namely Russia's war in Ukraine, energy, and the economic situation.'
'At our meeting we will discuss how to continue providing strong economic, military, political and financial support to Ukraine for as long as it takes,' said the letter.
The informal summit is also set to discuss the next steps the EU should take to address rising energy prices.
'The war in Ukraine is having a dramatic impact on the energy situation in Europe, with a spillover effect on our economy. Our primary objective is to ensure that we guarantee security of supply and affordable energy for our households and businesses, particularly as the winter cold approaches. We will assess the decision,' he said.
On Thursday, the first meeting of a nascent grouping called the 'European Political Community 'will be held in Prague.
The Community includes the 27 leaders of the EU, candidate countries like Turkey and Ukraine, as well as European countries that do not want to join the EU, such as Norway, Switzerland and the UK.
'The ambition is to bring Leaders together on an equal footing and to foster political dialogue and cooperation on issues of common interest so that, together, we work on strengthening the security, stability and prosperity of Europe as a whole,' explained Michel.
The Czech Republic holds the current EU Presidency. (end)
