Mozambique, Tanzania will begin exchanging intelligence, secret information in order to combat terrorism

(MENAFN) The two nations' defense forces will begin to share intelligence and sensitive material in the framework of countering transnational crime following the signing of a memorandum of understanding yesterday.

The bilateral agreement would strengthen the tracking of terrorist acts and other transnational crimes that endanger Mozambique and Tanzania's peace.

Cristóvo Chume, Mozambique's Minister of National Defense, believes there is an urgent need to increase the two nations' capacity to filter, follow, and prevent any transnational activity that poses a danger to peace and quiet in the two countries, which share a long border.

According to Minister Chume, the signing of the agreement between the Armed Forces of Tanzania and Mozambique on the sharing of intelligence and information, as well as training and joint operations, opens the way for more visible results in the fight against criminal activity that affects both countries.

“The instruments we signed provide the legal framework for the implementation of the planned actions, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the fight against terrorism in some districts of Cabo Delgado province and reinforcing border security between Mozambique and Tanzania,” Chume clarified, highlighting that both nations must be more vigilant regarding the infiltration of terrorists into their territory.

“Individuals with obscure agendas who are hostile to the growth of Mozambique and Tanzania cannot continue to take advantage of the courtesy, hospitality and cordiality of our peoples to establish themselves in our territories and carry out subversive actions,” Chume stated.
