(MENAFN) Ukraine has "every right" to keep on protecting its sovereign land as Russia held referendums in four areas under its occupation to offer a "pretext" to seize more Ukrainian land, according to the US on Wednesday.
State Department spokesman Ned Price informed journalists that the results of the polls, condemned by the West and its partners as "shams," were "prebaked," all but ensuring they would give Moscow the basis it sought to conquer and start a "land grab."
"The United States will never recognize Russia's attempts to annex parts of Ukraine. Quite the opposite. We will continue to work with allies and partners to bring even more pressure on Russia and the individuals and entities that are helping support its attempted land grab," on the words of Price.
The US will take extra moves "in the coming days" to reply to the polls, he also noted.
