PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Enhanced bilateral trade is needed to bolster cooperative relations with Afghanistan, says the Pakistani president.

Dr Arif Alvi also called for building greater networks with the Afghan business community and further accelerating the clearance of consignments at crossing points on the Durand Line.

Speaking to the head of mission at the Pakistan embassy in Kabul, Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani in Islamabad on Wednesday, he believed peace would help Afghanistan emerge as a trade and energy connectivity corridor in the region.

A peaceful Afghanistan would boost transit trade between Central Asian states and Pakistan in addition to speeding up work on the CASA-1000 power project and TAPI pipeline, he said.

Dr. Alvi reaffirmed Pakistan's offer to provide online or recorded educational packages through the Allama Iqbal Open University and the Virtual University for Afghan students.

Pakistan's new head of mission would play an active role in further cementing bilateral relations between the neighbours.
