KABUL (Pajhwok): About 135,000 disabled people and some 400,000 widows and orphans have been registered so far with the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs across the country.

This was stated by Qari Shah Mohammad, head of the office of the Minister of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, during a meeting in connection with the launch of a vocational training program for orphans and disabled people in Kabul.

He said the registered disabled and orphans had been given 70 percent of their rights and the process continued.

All disabled and orphans in the country would be registered by the end of this year and their rights would be paid, he added.

Qari Mohammad said his ministry wanted to give rights to those born with disabilities in addition to the disabled people of the current and past regimes.

This year, he said, the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs was providing education to people with disabilities in six vocational fields and tailoring and telephone repair courses were launched today. He said in the course that would last four months, 60 people were given the chance to learn.

Qari Mohammad said his ministry wanted to launch such courses in appropriate places for widows who were capable of vocational education.

Technical and Vocational Education deputy head at the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled, Qari Khalid said that disabled people would be imparted training in six fields (tailoring, telephone repair, plumbing, computer, refrigerator and others) this year.

“Twenty people are trained in each profession for four months and 120 people are trained in six professions and a total of 240 people will graduate from these courses in a year.”

A disabled person Abdul Majeed told Pajhwok that he was happy to study tailoring. He urged the government to provide vocational education and work to other disabled people.
