Previous Chelsea star John Obi Mikel announces his retirement from football


(MENAFN) Previous Chelsea and Nigeria star John Mikel Obi on Tuesday confirmed that he is hanging his boot to end his career.

Mikel posted a picture on Instagram stating that "There is a saying that 'all good things must come to an end', and for my professional football career, that day is today."

The Nigerian star stated that "This is not goodbye, it’s the start of another journey, another chapter of my life. I look forward to what the future holds and I hope you will walk with me. Thank you."

Mikel was a key player for Chelsea during his 11 years in club to achieve the English Premier League twice, as well as the UEFA Champions League in 10 years ago (2012), which was the club's first.

He also was a key part for Chelsea achieving the UEFA Europa League in the next year (2013).

Mikel got six goals under his name as well as produced 13 assists in 372 games for Chelsea in 2006-2017.

Separately, Mikel was a Nigeria center mid when the team achieved the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
