Iran declares its willingness to assist in establishment of peace in Caucasus

(MENAFN) Iran's ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan expressed Tehran's willingness to assist Baku and Yerevan in reaching a lasting peace.

On Tuesday, Iran's Ambassador in Baku, Abbas Mousavi, met with Azerbaijan's First Vice-President Assistant Elçin Emirbeyov.

The two talked on the current developments in bilateral relations, the situation in the Caucasus, and Iran's main positions on regional matters.

Ambassador Mousavi restated Iran's position on the immutability of internationally recognized boundaries and emphasized that any geopolitical developments should not be incompatible with Iran's essential and long-term interests in the area.

He stated that Iran was willing to assist its northern neighbors, Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia, in achieving long-term peace through bilateral and trilateral discussions, as well as the regional effort 3+3 in Tehran.

Following a few months of tenuous truce, Azerbaijan and Armenia launched a new round of escalation early this month.
