China commits to using Russian energy

(MENAFN) According to TASS on Tuesday, quoting China's Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen, China does not want to halt its policy of free commerce and intends to keep buying products from throughout the world, including Russian oil and gas.

In response to a query from a Western journalist on China's intentions to purchase energy from Russia and market its own agricultural products in the United States and European Union, Wang declared, “you want me to comment on several projected trends at once.”

“As for China, we will carry the banner of free trade high and will firmly adhere to the policy of openness,” the top official claimed, noting that Beijing “welcomes supplies of goods and services from other countries.”

China spent a record USD8.3 billion on Russian energy in August, up 68 percent year over year, according to figures from the General Administration of Customs.

Wang also mentioned that Beijing intended to provide international corporations looking to enter the Chinese market even more advantageous prospects.

He emphasized the most recent World Trade Organization estimate, which predicts that in the case of a global economic split, long-term GDP is going to fall by 5 percent.
