Lawmakers request that White House review US investment in China

(MENAFN) According to Politico magazine on Tuesday, a bipartisan group of politicians, including the Democratic leaders of the House and Senate, are pressuring the Biden administration to issue an executive order enhancing governmental monitoring of American assets in China.

According to a letter from influential senators mentioned in the story, the administration should issue an executive order while their legislation is being reviewed because it would take more time.

Wrote the lawmakers, who included Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “as deliberations continue in Congress, we urge your administration to move forward with executive action — which can then be bolstered by statutory provisions — to safeguard our national security and supply chain resiliency on outbound investments to foreign adversaries.”

The letter comes in response to rumors that the White House is ready to issue an executive order this autumn to monitor and perhaps prevent American corporations and investors from making overseas investments.
