Doha: Qatar has built a top-notch infrastructure which will carry the country into the future and attract companies from across the world, as the country prepares to host the biggest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, said an official during the International Data Corporation (IDC) Qatar CIO Summit 2022 yesterday.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Mohamed A Elhindi, CIO, University Technology Services at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) said:“We are proud to see the development and the readiness for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is the most organised project and initiative from beginning to end.

“It is a mega project, however the organisations and the skills behind them is phenomenal. One of the things that makes us so proud is not just the technology that is being implemented but how the technology is engraved in the line of business and how this is making a success,” he added.

Dr. Elhindi noted that the infrastructure that the country has built is top-notch infrastructure which with all the wrap around it will carry the country into the future.

Speaking about post-World Cup, Dr. Elhindi said:“The technology and infrastructure built for the World Cup is one of the good investments which will prepare the country for the next journey of more events and the country becoming business ready and attracting more business and companies. It will also contribute to the Qatar National Vision 2030, and this is very much the foundation and I think that is what will carry it forward”.

The IDC Qatar CIO Summit 2022 featured a tailored agenda filled with discussions, panel sessions, and keynote presentations from regional and global technology experts which explored the ICT issues. The two-panel discussions included 'Talent Development & the Demand for New Skills: How Do You Structure Your Team Optimally' and 'Alignment, Collaboration, and Co-innovation with Line of Business'.

The summit explored the increasing pace of innovation in Qatar and examined the country's evolving technology landscape. The event revealed how technological innovation has created a more competitive, diversified, and productive ICT sector that can meet the demands of the country's rising digital economy.

A recent research from IDC suggests that 57 percent of Qatari organisations have introduced new digital products and services over the last 12-18 months, while 70 percent have increased cost efficiencies through the digitalisation of operations.

IDC's annual CIO Summit series across Middle East, Turkey, and Africa has long been place to come for thought-provoking, in-depth discussions about cutting-edge tech solutions, emerging use cases, and proven strategies for driving success. Since 2008, it has served as the ICT community's premier source of learning about the industry's latest developments.
