S. Korea: Finance minister will travel to Philippines this week for ADB annual conference


(MENAFN) South Korea's finance minister will go to the Philippines this week to attend the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) annual conference, his office announced on Tuesday.

According to Seoul's finance ministry, Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho will go to Manila on Wednesday to participate in the event, which began on Monday and will last until Friday.

Choo intends to advocate for regional collaboration and policy coordination in the face of the pandemic, emphasizing the ADB's active role in this regard.

During the meeting, Choo will take over as chairman of next year's ADB annual conference, which will be place in Songdo, west of Seoul, in May 2023.

The minister intends to meet with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa to solicit his assistance in planning the conference for next year.

Choo will also meet with his Filipino colleague Benjamin Diokno on the sidelines of the ADB meetings to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation.

The ADB, headquartered in Manila, is a multinational development bank founded in 1966 to assist developing nations in the Asia-Pacific area with economic and social development. The bank is made up of 68 member countries.
