(MENAFN) Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iran's Foreign Minister, met with a UN representative to address the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria, and Ukraine
On Monday, Amirabdollahian met with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, who is remaining in New York following the 77th UN General Assembly to undertake consultations with international personalities.
The Iranian top diplomat praised Griffiths' efforts to facilitate international humanitarian actions, stressing that Iran supports such measures to alleviate human suffering.
The FM went on to note that the UN is expected to pay attention to lifting the embargo of Yemen as well as facilitating political discussion among Yemeni groups in order to strengthen the truce in the war-torn nation.
The two sides also debated political developments and humanitarian situations in Afghanistan and Syria, with Amirabdollahian stating that approximately 5 million Afghan migrants reside in Iran, and many more enter Iranian borders on a daily basis, but the UN provides no humanitarian assistance to the large population.
Referring to the equitable distribution of humanitarian supplies among Syrians, he encouraged foreign organizations to pay closer attention to Syrians, who are suffering from a shortage of safe drinking water and power, while terrorists and militias enjoy a different scenario in Idlib governorate.
Concerning Iran's attempts to aid in the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, the FM urged more attention to Ukrainian refugees.
