He described nuclear weapons as a genuine menace to mankind and stated that their abolition is a worldwide goal and commitment.

However, he noted, the United States on a global scale and the Zionist government on a regional one are impeding attempts to achieve nuclear disarmament.

According to an Iranian official, the risk of utilizing nuclear weapons has risen today. Nonetheless, nuclear powers have entered a race to deploy such weapons by claiming nuclear deterrence, and they even transfer nukes to their allies in violation of their obligations, he noted.

Thus, according Najafi, the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to play a good role in achieving nuclear disarmament.

The Iranian official also stated that his nation firmly supports the Non-Aligned Movement's demand to promptly begin discussions on a comprehensive nuclear weapons convention, as nuclear disarmament is a legally enforceable requirement and the only way to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons.
