European Commission seeks ‘constructive cooperation’ with new Italian administration

(MENAFN) The European Commission looks forward to “constructive cooperation” with the new Italian administration, on the words of the EU institution’s top spokesman Monday.

“We are looking forward to a constructive cooperation with the new Italian administration,” Eric Mamer informed journalists at the commission’s daily news meeting.

Mamer refused to remark on the Italian election drive, in which the winning far-right coalition had censured the EU and its rules, as well as those dealing with foreign businesses, the budget, migration and the rule of law.

“The European Commission and its president (Ursula von der Leyen) work with the European governments who are elected by their citizens. It will not change in this case either,” he declared.

Mamer as well stated that the EU executive group is “currently waiting for Italy to nominate the new government in line with the constitution.”
