Thousands walk to streets in northern Germany to demand completion of Nord Stream 2

(MENAFN) Thousands of demonstrators went to the streets of Lubmin, a beach town in northeastern Germany, on Sunday, pushing officials to restart the stalled Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, which was intended to transfer gasoline from Russia to Germany.

Germany had delayed the enormous energy project's inauguration for months before putting it on hold in the aftermath of Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, which is now in its ninth month.

The gas pipeline arrived at Lubmin, Germany, in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

With winter on the way, protestors demanded that Lubmin officials switch on the Nord Steam 2 natural gas pipeline to Russia.

“So that our homeland has a future, finally open Nord Stream 2,” demonstrators screamed at the protest rally, as announced by German media.

In related developments, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz inked a new energy agreement with the UAE on Sunday to cover for large reduction in Russian supply.

"The fact that we are dependent on one supplier and also dependent on its decisions will certainly not happen to us again," he asserted.
