Gunman was apprehended after opening fire at draft office in Russia's Irkutsk region

(MENAFN) According to the local governor, a gunman was apprehended after opening fire at a military draft office in Russia's Irkutsk region.

The gunman, who is seen identifying himself to police officers in a video posted on social media, opened fire at an enlistment office in the town of Ust-Ilimsk. According to a separate video of the shooting, he fired at least one shot inside the draft office. The video could not be verified immediately by Al Jazeera.

Irkutsk region Governor Igor Kobzev said on Telegram that the draft office head was in critical condition in the hospital and that the detained attacker "will absolutely be punished."

Since Russian President Putin declared a partial mobilization last Wednesday, a number of draft offices have been attacked.
