Zelenskyy: two more burial sites have been discovered in Izyum

(MENAFN) Ukraine's president has announced the discovery of two more mass burial sites containing the bodies of hundreds of people in the recaptured northeastern town of Izyum.

“Today I received more information … They found two more mass graves, big graves with hundreds of people… We’re talking about (the) little town of Izyum,” Zelenskyy stated amid an interview published by the CBS news network late on Sunday. He also called for continued sanctions against Russia, whose troops were routed in northeastern Ukraine this month in a lightning counteroffensive.

In early September, after months of Russian occupation, Ukrainian authorities discovered a large burial site next to a cemetery in a wooded area of Izyum. According to the regional governor, authorities finished exhuming the bodies of 436 people last week, with the majority appearing to have died violently.
