Lebanon Parliament Approves General Budget With Small Majority

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's parliament approved the 2022 budget on Monday, with a small majority of 63 votes in favour, 37 opposed, and six abstained.
According to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA), the approved budget sets expenditures at 41 trillion pounds (about EURO 1.2 billion according to black market exchange rates), while revenues were projected at 30 trillion pounds.
Among the key changes was a 'temporary' doubling of public servants' salaries and pensions, which would now reach a maximum of 12 million pounds (about EURO 324).
The budget has set the dollar exchange rate at 15,000 pounds to the dollar, less than half its rate on the black market.
Lebanon is in the throes of an economic meltdown that the World Bank has branded one of the world's worst crises in modern times. (end)
