Pres. Al-Alimi: Yemen's Taiz Roads To Open Peacefully, By People's Will

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ADEN, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi said late Sunday that the roads of Taiz and other governorates will be opened sooner or later by peace or by the overwhelming popular will.
According to the Yemen News Agency (SABA), Al-Alimi indicated -- in his speech on the occasion of the 60th National Day of the 26th September Revolution -- that the revolution was not directed only against the backward regime, but was for the sake of life and dignity.
Al-Alimi added, 'The (UN) truce, then, was not the goal, but rather a response to the calls of our people and alleviating their suffering.. but I assure you that the roads of Taiz and other governorates will be opened sooner or later by peace or by the overwhelming popular will.'
Choosing peace did not mean foregoing national principles, the tenets of the republic, or the solution for peace made available by the GCC initiative, the outcome of national dialogue conferewnce, and the UNSC 2216, he said.
He stressed that the Yemen leadership and government had stuck to commitments of the truce via opening the Sana airport and allowing the flow of 50 vesselswith oil products through the Hodeidah port, measures which were met by disdain and refusal to cooperate on part of the Houthi militias that still prevented the opening of Taiz roads and withheld salary from ports employees.
