(MENAFN) Alireza Dabir, chief of the Iran Wrestling Federation, responded to the outcomes of the nation's domestic Greco-Roman wrestling team by stating that “If we want to have no problem in Greco-Roman wrestling, we need to localize it in our country.”
Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers finished this year’s World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia without achieving one gold medal and came in the fourth ranking with only two silvers medals as well as one bronze and an overall of 81 points.
“We must increase the number of Greco-Roman wrestlers In Iran to localize it. The number of freestylers is much more than the GrecoRoman wrestlers,” as stated by Dabir in a meeting with Iran state-run TV.
He continued: "The second problem, in my opinion, is related to the youth categories in the Iranian wrestling clubs."
Iran's Greco-Roman team achieved four gold medals in the past competition in Norway. It came in the second rank in the team table by a minor difference in comparison with the champions Russia. But Mohammad Bana's team had a poor and surprising display in Serbia.
