Doha: The Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC), in cooperation with the Department of Research Support (Grants and Contracts), launched the second cycle of the National Science Promotion Program (NSPP).

The program aims to provide high school students with the opportunity to explore the world of research and strengthen their skills in it, in addition to supporting and empowering young people in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and preparing them for the future as highly qualified human forces in these fields.

During the program, students learn the basics of scientific research through intensive practical training in research laboratories in order to understand the importance of research, develop their research interests, and work in the field of research.

The Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed, said that the Research and Graduate Studies sector encourages the involvement of an integrated system of research scientists, graduate students, university students, as well as school students in practical research activities, as in the NSPP, which will enhance students' outlook for the future and will open new horizons in the fields of research.

She added that students will acquire many skills and knowledge in scientific research, critical thinking, modern technologies, and in developing their abilities to solve problems.

For his part, Dr. Saeed Al-Meer, the Director of the Department of Research Support (Grants and Contracts), stressed the importance of the program, as it provides an opportunity for students to work as researchers in university laboratories.

Sheikha Noura Jaber Al-Thani, the Director of QUYSC, said that the NSPP is a unique research program and is considered the starting point for developing competencies in the fields of science, technology, and engineering and the basis for building an innovation and knowledge-based economy in Qatar, praising the cooperating bodies in the program, namely the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science and the UNESCO Doha office.

The National Science Promotion Program (NSPP) was established in December 2020. It is one of the university programs to encourage research among students and young people at the universities and secondary schools in the country, especially in research areas that represent national research priorities.
